## A referral is more than a name

A referral arrives with borrowed trust. Someone has put their reputation behind an introduction, so the next step should feel personal, timely, and easy to understand. A generic promotional email can flatten that moment. A thoughtful, branded thank-you can help the source feel appreciated and give the referred prospect a warmer first experience with your company.

BizGift helps companies turn that moment into a repeatable workflow. Send a printed or digital BizGift carrying your company's artwork. The recipient activates it, chooses from participating national gift-card brands, and your team receives an engagement signal for appropriate follow-up. Assigned gift value is funded when the recipient activates, helping control unused gift-value exposure.

Activation is not a sale, appointment, or qualified lead by itself. It is a useful sign that the recipient engaged with the experience and that the next human conversation may be timely.

## Design two experiences, not one

The referral source and the referred prospect play different roles. Thank the source for making a trusted introduction. Welcome the prospect without making the gift feel like payment for a purchase or pressure to respond.

- **Source message:** acknowledge the introduction and explain why it mattered.
- **Prospect message:** name the person who referred them, introduce your company, and make the next step optional and clear.
- **Branded experience:** use your company's artwork on the card front so the sender is recognizable.
- **Recipient choice:** let the recipient activate and select a participating national gift-card brand.
- **Human follow-up:** contact the prospect with context and usefulness, not a scripted demand for a meeting.

This structure works for financial professionals, insurance agencies, real-estate teams, roofers, water-treatment companies, carpet cleaners, and other businesses where trust moves faster than a cold list.

## Build a simple referral-to-revenue path

1. A customer or partner makes an introduction.
2. Your team records the referral source, prospect, need, and owner.
3. You send a personalized printed or digital BizGift.
4. The recipient activates and chooses a participating brand.
5. Activation creates a timely follow-up cue for the assigned professional.
6. Your team records the conversation, appointment, opportunity, and revenue outcome.

The gift should support the relationship, not substitute for good follow-up. Assign an owner and a service-level expectation before the first card goes out.

## Model the economics honestly

Suppose a team sends 100 referral thank-yous with $25 assigned to each. The maximum assigned gift value is $2,500. If 50 recipients activate, the activated gift value is $1,250. The difference is effectively avoided gift-value funding for the unactivated cards.

That is not the same as a guaranteed 50% reduction in total program cost. Card production, delivery, platform, creative, and other program costs remain separate. Activation rates also vary by audience, message, delivery method, timing, and relationship strength.

- Maximum assigned gift value = cards sent × assigned value.
- Activated gift value = activated cards × assigned value.
- Cost per qualified referral = total program cost ÷ qualified referrals.
- Cost per meeting = total program cost ÷ completed referral meetings.
- Referral revenue = closed revenue attributed under your organization's rules.

## Measure relationship progress beyond activation

Track referrals received, referral sources, cards sent, activations, time to activation, conversations, meetings, opportunities, closed revenue, and repeat referrals. Keep each event distinct. A high activation rate with few conversations may point to weak follow-up. Fewer activations with strong close rates may identify a smaller but better-qualified source.

Use the results to improve the next cohort. Compare source segments, message language, printed versus digital delivery, assigned value, and follow-up timing. Change one major variable at a time so the team can learn what actually improved the path.

## Start with one referral moment

Choose one repeatable moment: a customer introduction, a partner referral, a post-closing thank-you, or a service recommendation. Define who qualifies, what message each person receives, who follows up, and which business outcome matters. Then run a small, measurable program before expanding it.

BizGift is most valuable when the card is not the campaign by itself. It is the branded bridge between a trusted introduction and the next useful conversation.
